How did we come to be a greenhouse kit dealer?

It's been a little over ten years since our modest little local pond store leapt out from our backyard to become one of the largest pond supply dealers in the Northwest. To help this expansion along, we began looking to build, or buy, a greenhouse kit to display our pond plants properly during the winter season (something we still do today).

Since it was still very early in the days of the internet it was a little harder to find a wide variety of greenhouse kits to choose from and just like today it was hard to find an honest dealer who would be straight forward, without any fancy sales talk, about what the best kit for our needs would be.

We quickly became pretty darn discouraged with the process and thought that if someone could provide all the best greenhouses in one place, to be easily compared, based on price, strength, and features, then it would be easy for anyone to figure out which would be the best greenhouse for their needs.

It didn't take long to decide that if no one else was going to provide that kind of service, then we would.

How did we come to do business on the Internet?

Back in 1995 the pond and garden business was only seasonal, so for the rest of the working year, we had a lot of time on our hands. I decided not to let this time go to waste. I started putting my dormant computer skills from college to work building websites and putting our company onto this newfangled internet.

Almost immediately our online business started to outgrow our local store.

We sold off a division of our company to concentrate on our garden center and on building online stores to distribute our products via the internet across the United States.

Now writing this years later it is hard to believe where we started and how far we have come. From one old junky computer to state of the art systems and dedicated servers. From 28k modems to screaming T1 broadband for the online help desks and customer service representatives. We can't wait to see what's ahead of us.
